Through the years, a fun part of our research has been researching articles that were a part of the Napier archive from which designers drew inspiration for new lines. These earrings were part of the Napier archive. We have always believed them to be Italian. Recent studies have collaborated with that hypothesis.
Gabriella Mode of Rome designed these “Pill Box” earrings. The earrings, plated in 18kt gold, unscrew at the top to hold pills or other small objects. The earrings were originally on display at the Excelsior Hotel in Rome during the summer of 1958.
We’ve not seen an exact Napier earring equivalent and would love to see your pieces. In terms of vessel-like items, we know of the Napier “Good Luck Pig” sterling pig charm that opens at the hinge or other perfume vessels. What other designs might be out there?
